The studio

Small by design.

Iris Edge Studios is an independent studio. Small enough that the person who designs a system is the person who builds it, debugs it at midnight, and answers the support email about it three months later.

What we actually make

Games with a second session in them. That is the whole thesis. A game that is pleasant once and then forgotten is not interesting to build. The interesting problem is what makes someone open an app on a Tuesday morning nine days in a row.

In practice that means streaks that forgive an off day, collections worth completing, progression that compounds, and a daily beat that changes enough to stay alive. It also means a lot of unglamorous engineering underneath, because a habit built on a game that loses your save is not a habit for long.

Under the hood

How it is built

Unity 6, URP, portrait

Every screen in Pinteza is constructed at runtime rather than laid out in a scene, which keeps the UI consistent, themeable, and localisable across roughly 1,700 strings.

Saves that survive

Atomic writes with backup fallback, versioned save wrappers for forward migration, and OS-level backup through iCloud and Android Auto Backup. Losing a 200-day streak is unacceptable.

Written, not translated

Each language is written by hand. Machine translation is obvious to a native speaker, and a word game in particular cannot survive it.

An edge backend

A Cloudflare Worker serves each day's word from KV with the date check enforced server-side, so the puzzle schedule never ships inside the app where anyone could read it.

The name

Why Iris Edge

The iris is the part of the eye that decides how much light gets in. The edge is the frame around what you chose to look at. A studio is mostly those two decisions, repeated: what to let in, and where to stop. The mark is an aperture for the same reason.
